Exchange Program

University of the Ryukyus Short-Term Student Exchange Programs

The University of the Ryukyus has two types of exchange programs: STRP and URSEP. The program that the student enters depends on their purpose of studying abroad.

STRP(Short–Term Regular Program) is for students who: (1) are aiming to master the Japanese language, (2) would like to take courses geared to Japanese students, and (3) have a supervisor in their field of study and get instruction in English. Students are accepted twice a year, in April and in October, and will be studying for a year or half year. However, depending on the student’s level in Japanese, they may be accepted only in April.

URSEP (University of the Ryukyus Short–Term Student Exchange Program) requires that the applicants be either a native English speaker or hold a TOEFL score of 550 points or above. This program is for students who: (1) have little or no previous knowledge of Japanese, or (2) are not focusing on studying the Japanese language. This program offers courses in which lectures are given in English, and the basic level Japanese language courses are given 3-4 times a week. All classes begin in October.
